Perform psychiatric and medical care functions through selection and delegation of tasks. Responsible for prioritizing, planning, organizing, directing, and completing all nursing care functions. Perform and document a variety of nursing assessments such as; admission assessments, physical assessments, behavioral and progress assessments, medication assessments and clinical assessments for the use of restraint or seclusion. Observe and assess needs of patients, make psychiatric and medical evaluations, and report to clinician as indicated. Responsible to direct, supervise, delegate, and assign patient care duties/tasks to Licensed Practical Nurses (LPN) and Mental Health Technicians (MHT). Initiate, update, and contribute to treatment planning process. Administer medications, accurately recognize side effects and adverse reactions of medications and transcribe MD’s orders. Perform crisis intervention and emergency medical care. Establish therapeutic rapport with patients for effective one-to-one interactions. Provide therapy, instruction and education in a group setting. Provide patient and family education on patient’s illness, medication use, side effects, medical condition, common signs and symptoms of condition, proper diet, exercise, life-style changes and other essential information for informed-patient self-care. Use teaching methods appropriate for the patient’s level of understanding. Document the patient and family response to the interventions and education. Responsible to maintain a safe environment of care by overseeing the monitoring of patients on precautions and in restraint/seclusion situations. Participate in activities, meetings, and in-service training programs. Communicate effectively in writing and verbally with patients, family members and other staff. Work cooperatively as a member of the multidisciplinary team.
Job Requirements
Education:
Diploma, Associate or Bachelor of Science Degree in nursing from an accredited
school of nursing.
Experience:
Up to 1 year of Psychiatric experience.
Licensure / Certification:
Valid State of Florida license or registration.
Complexity of Duties:
Requires alertness and the application of knowledge and experience in initiating the collection of data to assess the patient’s health and plan individualized care. Develops treatment plans and therapeutic interventions based on data collected from nursing
in conjunction with other disciplines. Requires knowledge of somatic therapy and related clinical skills. Requires instructional skills to provide health education to patients and families. Requires ability to direct, supervise and assign responsibilities to others. Requires knowledge of medication. Requires good writing communication and interpersonal skills.
